Our latest report, <em>\u201cRegenerative Series: Harvesting the Rain\u201d<\/em>, shows how regenerative-organic farming can turn soils into living reservoirs \u2014 protecting our food supply and securing our shared water future.<br \/><br \/><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-27006\" src=\"https:\/\/www.crowdfarming.com\/what-the-field\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/EN_Toolkit-1-1024x903.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Water challenge and the soil solution<br \/><br \/><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>In Europe, 20% of land and 30% of the population already face water stress every year. Droughts are moving north, floods are intensifying in the south, and soils \u2014 compacted and degraded by conventional agriculture \u2014 can no longer hold the rain that still falls. On top of this, fertiliser and pesticide run-off has polluted a third of Europe\u2019s waters, costing billions to clean. Conventional farming isn\u2019t just vulnerable to climate extremes \u2014 it\u2019s making them worse.<br \/><br \/><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The good news is that healthy soils act like sponges. A 1% increase in organic matter allows a hectare of farmland to store 75,000 litres more water and improves infiltration rates by up to 256%. Farms like La Junquera, BioSanz, and Tropiterr\u00e1neo are already proving it: absorbing floods, cutting irrigation needs in half, and even turning lifeless reservoirs into thriving ecosystems.<br \/><br \/><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The bigger picture<br \/><br \/><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Water security is not just about rain or reservoirs \u2014 it\u2019s about how we farm.
